Hello Engineers,
I welcome you all to D2D Pathshala Engineering Classes. On this platform you will get complete notes of according to BTER syllabus 2025.
This blog post is specially for Polytechnic 1st semester all branch, here you will get detailed notes of polytechnic 1st semester applied physics unit 1 notes in Hindi and English.
Polytechnic 1st semester Applied physics unit 1 Notes in Hindi & English
To Download the Notes PDF of Unit 1 Units Dimensions and Measurements in Hindi Scroll Down and click on the Download the PDF Here. then you will get PDF of my handwritten notes of applied physics unit 1 units, dimensions and measurements.
Following are the topics which were covered in Notes:
Unit 1 - Units, Dimensions and Measurements
- Fundamental and derived physical quantities
- units and systems of units
- dimensions and dimensional formulae of physical quantities
- principle of homogeneity of dimensions
- dimensional analysis and its applications
- limitations of dimensional analysis
- measurements
- types of measurement (direct and indirect)
- Errors in measurement (systematic and random)
Physical Quantities :
Physical Quantities are the Quantities which can be weighted and measured by experiments aur by the use of measuring instruments.
eg. - mass, length, time etc
Types of Physical Quantities:
There are mainly two types of Physical quantities :
- Fundamental Physical Quantities
- Derived Physical Quantities
1. Fundamental Physical Quantities
- The Quantities which do not depend on any other physical quantities are called Fundamental Physical Quantities.
- There are seven fundamental physical quantities. other than Plane angle and Solid angle are two physical quantities which comes under the category of Supplementary Physical Quantities.
Seven fundamental physical quantities are:
- Mass
- length
- Time
- Temperature
- Luminous Intensity
- Electric Current
- Amount of substance
2. Derived Physical Quantities
- The Physical Quantities which depends on any other physical quantities or we can say the physical quantities which derived by the combination of other physical quantities are called Derived Physical Quantities.
- Eg - Area, Volume, Velocity, Acceleration etc.
Units
A fixed amount or number used as a standard of meausrement.
- Fundamental Unit
- Derived Unit
Properties of Units
- Universally accepted.
- stable (unchanging with time, place or physical condition.
- well-defined & of a suitable convenient size.
System of Units
- CGS Unit System
- MKS Unit System
- FPS Unit system
CGS Unit System -
In this unit system we do measurement of
- Maas - in gm
- Length - in cm
- & Time - in seconds
FPS Unit System -
In this unit system we do measurement of
- Maas - in Kg
- Length - in m
- & Time - in seconds
FPS Unit System -
In this unit system we do measurement of
- Maas - in Pound
- Length - in foot
- & Time - in seconds
SI Unit System -
This is advance version of SI Unit System.
Video Lectures -
Fundamental and derived physical quantities, units and systems of units
dimensions and dimensional formulae of physical quantities
principle of homogeneity of dimensions
Dimensional analysis and its applications, limitations of dimensional analysis, measurements, types of measurement (direct and indirect), Errors in measurement (systematic and random)
